What we make

A browser-based editor for English to Marathi typing. Type namaskar, press Space, and you get नमस्कार. Around that sits what you need to finish a piece of writing: an on-screen Marathi keyboard, voice typing, formatting, tables, images, multiple documents, and export to TXT or HTML.

Why it exists

Most phones and computers come with an English keyboard, and learning a Marathi layout takes practice that many people do not have time for. Writing Marathi should not need a font installation, a new layout, or an account. This site is our attempt to make it as easy as typing a chat message.

How it works

A language model reads each word you type by its sound and offers up to eight Marathi spellings. The model is downloaded once and then runs inside your browser, so typing keeps working if your connection drops. The editor also remembers the spellings you pick, so your preferred forms come first the next time.

The model is an open-source IndicXlit model. Its licence is published with the site.

What we believe

• Your writing is yours. Documents stay in your browser. We do not run a document server.
• Free means free. No account, no subscription, and no limit on how much you type.
• Open about data. We count visits with analytics, and the site may show ads to stay free. We never send your writing to either.
• For everyone. It works on phones, tablets and computers, with a keyboard, touch, or voice.
